There is no greater and more precious resource than our children. We took the responsibility of bringing them into this world and we must continue our responsibility to them by providing them with the love, time and tools they need to develop.

In this highly complex and changing world, we are all now facing the prospect of working 24x7. Many of the Human Resource departments of Silicon Valley have coined a new phrase - "drag-co-efficient" - meaning if you have two children - you receive two negative evaluation points! Should we commit totally to this new work ethic - it would be a criminal action against our children.

My New Year's and New Millennium Resolution is to spend at least one hour a day with the kids and turn off the Internet on weekends (unless there is a real work emergency).

I can't fulfill this resolution - unless you do as well! If our work expectations and family values are the same, we can then all enjoy the best of non-virtual life and our children will grow up healthy and stable with both parents and smiles.
